Updated CIOS38 (249) and hermes CIOS222

Postby jkunze » Tue Jul 13, 2010 10:49 am

I'm looking at the updated CIOS38 (249) v19 and hermes CIOS222 v5.1. If I wanted to install them, would I repeat the install process copied below that was done following the 4.2 firmware?

The CIOS38 (249) v19 and the hermes CIOS222 v5.1 is an app with dol file.

The dol file for CIOS38 doesn't include a WAD file, so I assume I'd do a Network Installation. Thoughts, recommendations?

3] Run Custom IOS38 Installer
Choose IOS36 and press A.
Choose WAD install and press A.

4] Run cIOS 222/223 installer v4
Choose IOS 249 for installation.
Install Custom IOS 202 and select IOS38 merged with IOS60.
Restart and install Custom IOS 222 and select IOS38.
Restart and install Custom IOS 223 and select IOS38 merged with IOS37.

It's not the same. You need some additional WAD files. You could try the Network install as well.

I figured that it probably wouldn't be the same and I couldn't locate any walk through or step by step to perform the installs. Where would I find the additional WAD files? If I chose to do the network install, do I need to repeat the steps from the 4.2 mod doc?

1. Download cIOSx Rev19.
Code: Select all
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OP5WJAEL

Download WADS :
Code: Select all
http://www.mediafire.com/?gkgbltkhczd

2. Place the .wad files in the WAD folder and the cIOSx installer into the apps folder.
3. Start cIOSx Installer and choose IOS249.
4. Choose Network installation if your Wii is connected to the internet. Choose WAD installation if you are not connected to the internet.
5. Choose which base IOS wad you want. CHOOSE ONLY ONE. (I recommend base IOS37 for its compatiblity with games). ONCE YOU INSTALL A BASE IOS AND YOU INSTALL ANOTHER BASE IOS FOR IOS249, IT WILL REPLACE YOUR OLD BASE. (ex: you install IOS249 base IOS37 first, then you decide to install base IOS38. IOS38 will then replace IOS37)
6. After it is done installing, restart your Wii.

Thanks for all your help. I downloaded the full pack and looking at it. I just wish I understood the Wii and the IOS's better and what I'm doing when performing the mods. I have had no issues following the docs you put together. I just want to understand what I'm doing while doing it. Do you guys have links to any good reading that explains this all better?

Reviewing the 4.2 walkthrough, it has me using IOS36 for the CIOS38 install. what is the difference/what effect does this have on the Wii vs using IOS37?

4.2 is obviously different then 4.3. IOS 36 is just one of the IOS's that needs to be used due to the exploit. It's just a file a part of the file system on the wii.

Good point. I suppose it would have helped if I told everyone that I was still on 4.2, not 4.3

Ok, further researching, I found the following info about CIOS v19:

IOS37-64-v3869.wad -> Instruments.
IOS38-64-v3867.wad -> Same as previous cIOSs, Stable
IOS57-64-v5661.wad -> Offers faster USB loading
IOS60-64-v6174.wad -> Better Network Support
IOS70-64-v6687.wad -> SD(HC) Improvements

Obviously, it has been a while since I did this and looked at some videos on youtube. Looks like you just choose the base when you launch the loader and it just does all the rest.

With a system running 4.2, I asume I should follow the 4.2 directions and use IOS36 Correct (if that is what I used before)?

IOS37 is just the base wad for IOS249. I am pretty sure IOS36 has nothing to do with it because it is used for Homebrew apps and stuff.

Yes that is correct. You would choose the slot (IOS249 or IOS250) and the base.

IOS37 actually is for instruments AND for troublesome games (MH3, GH3, Wii Fit+, Fifa 2010, etc.) thats why I recommend it. The only downside it actually has is you have to update your Wad Manager to 1.7 (unless the other ones work for you).

Just a news update, cIOSx Rev20 is coming out this month or the beginning of August so stay tuned.
