Is it worth a try?

Postby vespadamo » Wed Jul 21, 2010 1:56 pm

Hi i have had problems in the past with my wii trying to update after it had been soft modded with a preloader and i messed it up big time as not knowing what i was doing and some how managed to wipe the wii memory :omg:

Anyway as it wasnt me that done the mod but some bloke i know (before i found your great and very helpful site as i would of done it myself like i have on more than one occasion)

My wii is 3.2E Pal with a preloader installed dont know what set up it is or anything ;)

Question:
I have bought myself a WD 320gb external HD for it do you guys think it would be ok to install the loader which is in the poths pack 4.2 so i can run the HD.I would be installing it through the wad manager that i have from your old set up for the 3.1 upto the 4.1 wiis or do you think i should just pay him £25 to do it for me but than that way im still stuck as i dont know what the hell i have on the wii :/

thanks all damo

If you have access to a retail copy of Super Mario Galaxy 2, it will update your Wii to 4.2. Now, with your system being PAL though, I'm not sure if this is the same.

Also, being that is appears to be already modded and you don't know how or with what, you may want to have him update it. I would recommend too that you get him to document the types of mods he did when and if you do. That way, if you have more questions, we would be able to make a more educated recommendation.

What is your Wii's problem? You can get a retail game (SMG2 Pal will work as it comes with 4.2x update) and update to 4.2 then follow the poths guide to softmod your Wii. Be very careful when modding your Wii as Priiloader will be gone.

If you are really afraid of getting your Wii bricked then send it to the person to mod it.

Hi all thanks for the replies seems krytical you have miss understood me.There is nothing wrong with my wii which is 3.2E pal and is soft modded all games are working fine on discs except for SMG 2 still cant get that to work just get to the load screen then goes black tried patching different loaders error 2 fix just not working so im guessing its coz im on 3.2 and not the 4.2 as it updates to this to play it but i did get NSMB wii working which quite a few people had trouble with all i done was wait for the fix on the usa version and then patched it to uk and hey presto.
All i am trying to do is use a loader and run an external hard drive so i dont have to keep messing around with discs any more.I know about the retail game to update to 4.2 but as i tried to update the firmware when it was on 4.1 quite awhile back through Nintendo when it was already soft modded it crashed halfway through and then it came up with preloader update so i did this and that crashed and basically i lost the lot and had nothing left no wii menu or anything apparantly i killed the board so had another fitted as you can understand i dont want to update incase this happens again.I think my best bet is just to get the bloke to do it and see if i can have the info of him as jkunze says but dont think he will or just get him to wipe it all off then do the pack from here as i have with mates that could be the best bet that way i know whats going on. :tu: just got to wait for HD to arrive in post then ill have ago.

Oh for that, you don't need to update any system menu to play games. You need to install IOS56-64-v5405 for it to work.

I recommend you get Priiloader v0.4 Rev78 and install it and enable "Block Disc Updates" and "Block online updates" and you won't have to worry about it anymore.
